MISSION & Guiding Principles

Mission

MEANWHILE produces boundary-pushing, visceral theatrical events that meditate on questions facing society now and nurture an equitable, engaged, and curious society.

Through workshops, readings, and daring full productions, we nurture and develop new voices while producing work that investigates the challenges of everyday people in boundary-pushing ways. In doing so, we aim to build the next generation of theater professionals and audiences who see themselves, their neighbors, and the world they live in reflected on stage in radical new ways.

Guiding Principles

  • Cultivate Artistic Rigor and Reinvention â€‹

  • Radical Inclusion

  • Deepen Curiosity

  • Expand Collaboration

  • Creativity

We are committed to bringing new voices, characters, and stories into the light, meditating on what it means to be American now, with particular emphasis on immigrant, queer, and historically marginalized communities. Guided by curiosity, compassion, and the spirit of wonder we create theater that moves, challenges, and inspires.

Meanwhile...

How we got our name.

Our name, Meanwhile Theater, is inspired by the writing of Mary Oliver, particularly her poem Wild Geese.

It reflects our belief that theater can hold the chaos of the present moment whicle pointing toward what is still becoming, what is still calling and what is still alive in us.

Despite everything the world continues to spin forward, we continue to dream, and find ways to survive. Wild Geese, like theater, reminds us of our "place in the family of things" and instanly reorients us toward that which interconnects us all.

We are happy you have found us!
